Welcome to our website

Welcome to the Hampshire Alpine Garden Society Website.

Our friendly, active group has been established since October 1962, nearly 47 years! We currently have a membership of 75-80, and they range from those new to alpine gardening, to experts with a wealth of experience between them. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month from September to May (3rd Tuesday in December), and doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. The venue is Chilworth Hall at Chilworth, just behind The Chilworth Arms.

We have an excellent programme of lectures on a wide range of topics, always stimulating and interesting. Afterwards there is tea, coffee and biscuits, and a chance to chat to other members of the group. We have a raffle, and also a plants sales table and a display table each month, and there is a good library to browse and possibly borrow a book or two!

In March we have a competitive show for the David Benton Rose Bowl, and there is an Annual Plant Sale in May which we all look forward to with much excitement! There is usually an annual coach trip too. We are joint hosts, with the Dorset group, of the AGS Summer Show South, usually known as the Rocky Flower Show. This takes place in early June at a Hall in Wimborne, Dorset. The event attracts exhibitors from as far away as Yorkshire and North Wales, and combined with the irresistible plants for sale, and the tempting refreshments available, it is a superb day out.

This year we are also planning a joint day with our two neighbouring groups, Dorset and West Sussex, which will take place at the Hilliers Arboretum, near Romsey. This is also the venue where we put on a display of alpines each spring, which attracts a lot of interest.

Membership of our group is open to all - you don't have to be an AGS member. Do come along as a visitor (£2.50 for a whole evening's entertainment!) and see if you'd like to join us regularly. You would be most welcome.
